San Antonio Dining Scene About To Become Hip to the MAX!

by Mark

One of my FAVORITE restaurants and wine bars is finally coming to San Antonio this next month!

Max’s Wine Dive, where the slogan is “For Those Who Want a Champagne Experience In a Juke-Joint Atmosphere…”

Local chefs and restaurateurs will have a chance to see how fantastic food, great wine, attentive service, and VALUE without the ego plays out in San Antonio.

As many of you know, I lived and worked in New York City for several years. One of the things that I miss not having here in the Alamo City that we had in the Big Apple was a cool dining spot that foodies, chefs, restaurateurs, and regular clientele could visit, especially after 1o:00 pm on a weeknight!

Why do most local restaurateurs incorrectly believe that the only sit down restaurant experience San Antonio deserves after 10:00 pm on a weekday night is a lousy coffee shop, mexican joint, or an even worse “dining” experience at one of the “boil in a bag” or “our cooks microwave better than your cooks” casual dining chains? Lousy food and inflated prices…no thanks!

For being one of the largest “food towns” in Texas as well as having an outpost of my Alma Mater (Culinary Institute of America, CIA), we deserve better. Well, since no one in the local community had the vision or cojones to do it, I applaud Jerry Lasco and his parter Jonathan Horowitz for having the vision to give a large underserved section of San Antonio a gourmet spot just like some of our other adult food cities that many of us visit or have relocated from.

My fellow chefs and I raved about Blue Ribbon Cafe before it became the trendy, food-fashionista hang out. (Thanks Matt Lauer for mentioning it on national TV!)
